Life is always changing. Did you know that some changes could impact your home insurance policy and coverage? It’s up to you to let your agent know about these changes so they can help keep you properly protected. We’ve put together a list to help you review your policy and trigger a call or email to your agent if needed. Please use the checklist below:

  • Changes in Residence: This is no longer your primary home, you rent it out to others in any capacity (even if free to a family member and you don’t live there), this is now a secondary/vacation home
  • New Purchases:You purchased: a second home, a rental, new jewelry, collectables/art, and or firearms
  • Other Life Changes: any life change that could affect the title or ownership of your home (i.e. put into a trust, marriage status change, etc)
  • Potential Coverage Issues: Purchase of a dog (I need to verify breed, etc), added a pool/spa or trampoline with no safety net, a resident employee such as a nanny or caretaker, running a business out of your home, purchased a golf cart
  • Need for changes to your policy limits: Your net worth has changed since you began your policy and you have more to protect against a liability claim against you, remodel/upgrades, added square footage, solar panels, ADU addition, inflation (make sure you are still comfortable with your limits)
  • Ways to save: Increase your deductible, add auto if you don’t already have it for a bundle discount, water leak detection system, monitored burglar or fire alarm
  • Additional Home Coverage to consider (not included unless elected): Cyber/ID theft protection, service line coverage, building and ordinance coverage increase, earthquake insurance, flood insurance, umbrella insurance

We hope this was helpful. Please reach out to your agent with any questions you may have.
